Rev. Blackstone Settlement

In 1635 the Reverend William Blackstone moved from Boston to the banks of the river since renamed in his honor. His home was near what is now theĀ  Ann&Hope mill in Cumberland. This made him the first white settler in what would become the Rehoboth North Purchase and the first settler in what would become Rhode Island. The complete story of Rev. Blackstone and his importance to Attleborough, can be found here.
