Mr. Frank Weathern, W.Farmington, Maine

Attleborough, Jan 23rd “85”
Friend Frank
I presume you will hold me to my election bet, and you must excuse my not having fulfilled it before, as I have been waiting for the disappointment and strangeness to wear off as of course it was a great shock to my delicate nerves for so…

…many predicted the death to everything and everybody during Cleveland’s administration, but of course time will only tell and I should not think it possible for business to be any nearer a standstill than it is with us at the present time, however we can only hope for the best and wait patiently. we are having a very open winter with only two snowstorms as yet and only one of those was enough for sleighing so I have had only two or three rides and the ice cutters look blue for it has not been thick…

… enough for cutting as yet. We have had a great many hard rains and but little frost in the ground and the walking is almost as good as in summer. Addie and I went to our skating rink the other evening to see the boys play polo which is very exciting if one understands the game. Remember me to all the folks and I hope you may be able to read enough of this to know that I am a disappointed although hopeful Republican.
